Bookish Ramblings: May TBR

It’s May!!!!!!  This month see’s the release of 2 of my most anticipated reads of the year, A Court of Frost and Starlight and Legendary!  As with last month I’ll be reading a combination of Trad and Indie and giving some love to the books that have been on my TBR for much longer than they should.

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas:  The Winter Solstice. In a week. I was still new enough to being High Lady that I had no idea what my formal role was to be. If we’d have a High Priestess do some odious ceremony, as lanthe had done the year before. A year. Gods, nearly a year since Rhys had called in his bargain, desperate to get me away from the poison of the Spring Court to save me from my despair. Had he been only a minute later, the Mother knew what would have happened. Where I’d now be. Snow swirled and eddied in the garden, catching in the brown fibers of the burlap covering the shrubs My mate who had worked so hard and so selflessly, all without hope that I would ever be with him We had both fought for that love, bled for it. Rhys had died for it.  This series left me an emotional wreck last year – I’ve been pretty much obsessed with it since and can’t wait to start reading this, which makes the fact that it’s released today all the more sweet! Sarah J Maas is brilliant at dealing with mental health issues and the rebuilding of Velaris is certain to have a whole ton of issues to work through for our characters.  If you, like me, are obsessed with this series you may want to keep an eye out for my unboxing of the Book and Nook ACOFAS box later in the month!

The Gemini Connection by Teri Polen:  Teen twin brothers Evan and Simon Resnik are fiercely loyal to each other and share an unusual bond—they experience each other’s emotions as their own and can sense where the other is.
On their dying planet of Tage, scientists work tirelessly on its survival. Like the twins’ parents, Simon is a science prodigy, recruited at a young age to work with the brilliant creator of Scientific Innovations. To the bitter disappointment of their parents, Evan shows no aptitude or interest in science. As a Mindbender, he travels into the minds of scientists to locate buried memories, connect ideas and concepts, and battle recurring nightmares.
When Simon mysteriously disappears, Evan is plunged into a world of loss and unbearable guilt. For the first time, he can’t ‘feel’ Simon—it’s like he no longer exists. Evan blames himself. No one knows that he ignored his brother’s pleas for help on the night he went missing.
A year later, Simon is still gone. Evan lost his twin, but Tage might have lost its last hope of survival when it’s discovered that Simon’s unfinished project could be its salvation. Evan is determined to find him—somewhere—and bring Simon home. Their unusual connection might be more extraordinary than they know, and the key to locating Simon. This was a impulse download from Netgalley, Black Rose Writing have invited me to review for them and this one caught my eye the other evening as it’s been a while since I’ve read something more based in science fiction!

Kingdom Asunder by Thaddeus White: What crime is more unforgivable than treason?
Princess Karena is all that stands between the House of Penmere and ruin. The King, her brother, was gravely wounded in a failed assassination attempt, and once-loyal followers are flocking to the treacherous Usurper’s golden embrace.
But Karena knows the surest defence is attack, and will stop at nothing to destroy any rival to her brother… or herself.
Against her, the Usurper musters a vast army to crush Penmere once and for all, but in a war of treachery those closest to you can be the greatest threat.  This is this month’s “been on my tbr forever” read – I feel bad about this one as a friend asked me to review this last year – I tried but just wasn’t in the frame of mind for high fantasy at the time and then I forgot to pick it back up when I was.  I’m determined to get this read this month!

Legendary by Stephanie Garber: A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.
After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.
The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister’s. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice. But now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever. Welcome, welcome to Caraval…the games have only just begun. I know that Caraval left a lot of people divided but other than 1 trope (all peril can be forgotten when a boy has dreamy eyes) I absolutely loved it! The world created was beautiful was fabulous images and a great story, this is due for release the same time that we are on holiday so i’m hoping this will be my beach read!

These are 4 that are definitely going to be reached this month I will read more if I can, but these are the ones to look out for reviews for if any of them look exciting for you!
