It’s time for a Five Things Friday, my weekly roundup of my week in and out of books, with thanks as always to Kimberly Faye Reads for the prompts!
New to my Queue
I took part in a facebook release party the other day, it seems like these are so few and far between now – used to be one going on every day! This was a great party though and I won a set of the Cursed Witch series by Tia Silverthorne Bach, they are shorter reads so hopefully I can get to book one, Bittersweet Vengeance this month! Here’s the blurb…
Love is cruel.
Not all first loves have a happy ending. For Natalia, hers was the harbinger of soul-crushing heartache. Betrayed, devastated, and suffering, she’s forced to make an impossible decision.
Vengeance is Bittersweet.
As a result, she gains unimaginable power, but it comes with a catch: Revenge. Natalia soon realizes there’s no solace in being judge, jury, and executioner, and she must break an ancient curse before she loses her soul.
My Favourite Book(s) this week
I’ve spent most of this week reading Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth, whilst I didn’t outright love it, I did find it a really enjoyable 4 star read. It dragged a little in parts for me which was a shame but the concept and the characters were great. I’ve had it on my shelf for a while and I’m glad I finally got the time to pick it up, it feels like a completely different writing style to the Divergent books but still a style I enjoyed. I haven’t read the Divergent short story all the way through yet, I get the feeling it’s going to be emotional.
When I wasn’t reading
I have spent a ton of time this week trying to find a costume for when I go to see the Rocky Horror Show on stage next month, it’s not proving that easy to find something that actually looks good though. All the fancy dress stuff is naff looking but making my own is going to cost a fortune, I want to go as Time Warp Columbia, but I may end up having to go for Columbia in PJ’s and Micky ears!
Pic of the Week
This week saw the release of Vampire Masks, the second Bathory Academy book by Katie M John – I really loved the first book which was a pleasant surprise as Vampire books aren’t my go to usually. I’m going to try and pick it up this month if I get through my other tbr reads!
Looking Ahead
I’m looking forward to my Nerd Poured Candle crate arriving hopefully tomorrow, it’s inspired by Fantastic Beasts and I’ve already had a sneak peak at the enamel pin which is amazing, keep an eye on my IG Stories for an unboxing. I’m currently reading Girls of Paper and Fire, I meant to take part the Fairyloot readalong but they are going too slowly so I’m reading it at my own pace. I’m getting close to the end of Ni No Kuni as well and I don’t want it to finish 😦
