After the festive break I’m desperately trying to get myself back into a routine in all aspects of my life, so lets get back to one of my constants which is a five things Friday!
New to my Queue
Oh my where to start! I have a ton of books that have been added to my tbr since my last post. I got a £25 kindle gift card for my birthday and stocked up as well as subscription box books and my own purchases with a Waterstones gift card that I got for Christmas! These are some of the news books I have, others I have already read and may mention later on 😉
My Favourite Read(s) this week
Over the last few weeks I have loved plenty of books, Shadow of the Fox was amazing and Fire and Heist was a ton of lighthearted fun, but this week I finished Vampire Masks by Katie M John. It’s the second book in her main Bathory Academy Series and I loved it just as much as book one! I love how the main character Alexander is so new to the world, which for me, as a vampire reading newbie, means that I’m learning along side of him, it’s the perfect read if you’re new to the genre!
When I wasn’t reading
I’ve luckily had some time off work over the festive period so we’ve managed a ton of fun things, Little Miss Playground and I went to the ballet at the weekend which was so lovely. We’ve been for walks, played a lot of Pokemon, celebrated the smallest playground dwellers birthday – this week back at work has been a real reality crash I have to say.
Pic of the week
I’m trying to be less linear in my bookstagram posts. I’m having a bit of a crisis of confidence in my photography skills, getting new follows and retaining them feels harder than ever at the moment, so I have to up my game! I’m often awed by the composition of pictures I see from people with far few followers than me so I’m experimenting with different angles and approaches, I’m trying to get some different props and also considering a theme. This was my first attempt at something a little different and whilst it didn’t get a ton of likes I am super happy with how it turned out and it will be good to get back to a place where I’m taking photos that feel happy with rather than what I perceive people want to see!
Looking ahead
One of the Christmas gifts we got as a family was a Nintendo Switch and pretty much the first thing I did was go out and get Zelda: Breath of the Wild, whist it’s fair to say i’m struggling to get used to the totally open world game play it’s going to be taking up a lot of my time I know! I spent about 2 hours last night just wandering about so it’s going to be a real time black hole. Reading wise, I’m sticking with my plan of reading one Netgalley Arc (where approved) per month. Next week I’m going to be reading Apocalypse 5 by Stacey Rourke – she’s an author that I have seen a ton about, but not yet read so I’m excited to get stuck into this Sci-fi – the tag line “Have a pleasant apocalypse” totally drew me in I have to admit.
